MedStar Washington Hospital Center, located in a bustling and diverse inner-city environment, is the largest hospital in DC with 912-beds, a Level I trauma center, the region's only Burn Center, a nationally recognized cardiovascular program, and more. We offer one of the best RN Residency Programs in the area for new graduate RNs and RNs looking to transition into a new specialty area. You will hit the ground running and be immersed in an extensive 1 year program, which includes classroom instruction tailored to specific clinical areas, a focused case study approach to learning, clinical preceptorship, and new hire support/mentorship. All programs are run by experience clinical nurse educators who oversee both classroom and clinical orientation components. Since 1987, our RN Residency Programs have been the foundation for new graduate and RN training.
The RN Residency Program offers opportunities to work in one of the following units: Medicine/Geriatrics, Intermediate Care, Medical/Behavioral Health, General Medicine, Progressive Care Unit, Medicine/Stroke, Surgical/Oncology, Medicine/Pulmonary, General Medicine/Surgical, Surgical/Transplant, Medicine/Oncology, Congestive Heart Failure IMC, Cardiac/Vascular, Cardiac Surgery Step-down, Medicine Cardiology IMC, Interventional Cardiac Short Stay, Emergency Department, IV Therapy, Deluxe Suites, and select ICUs.
Requirements: Current CPR certification. New grad RNs MUST have taken their NCLEX and passed before the start of the program. It is STRONGLY recommended to sit for a DC RN license when registering to take your boards.
RN Academic Requirement: For new graduates hired with an Associate's degree, employment with MedStar Washington Hospital Center is contingent upon enrollment into an accredited BSN program within one (1) year of employment, and continuing matriculation in the program to achieve a BSN within 5 years of the program start date. Proof of enrollment to be submitted to Nurse Leader.
CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION/LICENSURE: Licensed as a registered nurse in Washington, D.C.. Completes continuing education contact hours in the current area of practice as required by the DC Board of Nursing for nursing license renewal.

1. Nursing school attended, degree awarded with graduation date and current or final nursing school grade point average.
2. Current licensure status, to include ATT test date and jurisdiction (e.g. DC, Maryland, Virginia, etc.). If you have not graduated please indicate which state you plan to obtain your initial licensure.
3. If you have also worked as a nurse extern or patient care technician, please indicate the specialty area and length of tenure.
4. The location of your senior practicum (or final clinical) and number of hours completed.
